somethings + nothings: february 23, 2017

It's been raining and raining in Los Angeles!  You might have heard this on the national news, or even the international news, as we discovered we made news all the way across the pond.  It's not raining today, per se, but I hear it's going to be raining again this weekend.  Such a novelty here in La La Land.  My grand ambitions of planting a garden wonderland and magically losing my propensity to kill green things has been sidelined in favor of long days at Ikea and evenings spent organizing the linen closet.  The flourishing garden will come later, I tell myself, once I've read all the books and we've killed all the gophers.

Your mid-week distractions:

flavor your own coffee - I've been bullet-proofing this week but should get on this orange peel wagon

morning routines and the myth of the 8-hour workday

cross-country train trek - I say yes!

a few ways to stay politically engaged all year long

Mr. Obama and his love of books

fructifying boredom - we all need some immediately

a theory on how there is no individual without the collective and vice versa

the land of the untranslatable word - like "natsukashii" and how I keep dreaming of summer camp

the amazing human capital hidden in our refugees

haleigh's blog journey through the loire and into Tours, the city where I may have first decided Andy was going to be the love of my life - he may have had the environs (and a spectacularly lightning storm) on his side
